- 1. (Hip-Hop) (1911↑, 426↓)A culture and form of ground breaking music and self expression with elements that consisted of the elements of graffiti art, DJing, MCing, and breaking. Today Hip-Hop is considered to be dead in the mainstream because so-called mainstream Hip-Hop doesn't have the elements of hip-hop and have no meaning. The stuff on MTV and the radio can't be called Hip-Hop because the lyrics don't have any meaning or self expression. Wack artists today just rap about their shopping lists and other bullshit. There are no more DJs making a prescence since artists today think they can manage without them. Without a DJ there are no scratches and cuts. No much graffiti art is being shown in videos. Artists such as 50 Cent, Nelly, Chingy, J-Kwon, P. Diddy, Cash Money Millionaries lack the 4 elements since their lyrics are ridiculous (no MCing skills), they don't have any DJ presence in their tracks (notice that so-called hip-hop today lacks scratches and cuts), and not much graffiti art is being expressed. The point of this defintion is to show that MTV/Radio mainstream Bling Rappers should be categorized as Hip-Pop artists, not Hip-Hop artists.

If our culture is limited to writing illegible crap on walks, and yelling into a microphone, then it's not that great of a culture at all. Hip Hop is the way we talk, the way we act, our fashion, our lifestyle, and our people. It's the culture of the streets, Secondly, hip hop is NOT a music genre. Like my man said below me, rap is something you do, hip hop is something you live. Rap is just a part of hip hop, and frankly it's the part that is pretty much selling-out and shitting on it as well.'Hip Hop is the culture of the streets. The voice of the urban community. In actuality, it is only part of Hip Hop that is dying, and that is mainstream. I don't need MTV, BET, or Much Music to live my music for me, so as long as me, or anyone else enjoys Hip Hop, it will be alive. Hip Hop MUSIC can range from slow, slurring speech with digital beats and a heavy bassline,[known as gangsta rap, or southern rap, which is mostly responsible for the "death" Hip Hop], to fast, crisp lyrical delivery with the instrumentals ranging from a multitude of sounds and instruments.Guy 1 - Hip-Hop is garbage, it's all about guns, and bitches. It has 4 important elements which are: MCin/Rappin DJin Graffiti Breakin This way of life started in the Bronx and spread down to other boroughs. Towards the late 80's it spread all the way to L.A. especially Compton/South Central. This started angsta rap and after that was the bling-bling era (which is what is causin rap to crumble and is whats causin everybody to look at it badly). It sucks that people look at the shit on MTV/BET and judge rap and hip-hop to be shitty music and a shitty way to live. Author: NBFORREST1 http://hip-hop.urbanup.com/578350427. (hip-hop) (11↑, 17↓)A music style that formed in the 80's out of reggae influence. It was forming a little bit after the rap style was formed. It borrowed the spoken type of lyrics and it had trumpet and very upbeat and stimulating rhythms. Hip-hop is different from rap because rap is very poetic but it has a beat to keep a steady flow, (a beat as in drums or anything that makes a short sound) It (was) started/influnced with/by the James Brown song "The Big Comeback" Hip-hop got mixed up with rap when Run-D.M.C. came in, they created songs that were a mix of both styles, such as "King of Rock", it had poetic lyrics, drums and guitar which had savory rhythm. Run-D.M.C. were very good with poetry and they used Hip-hop melodies and rap beats mixed in their songs. Modern Hip-hop is called rap but it isn't very poetic, it is almost like 80's Hip-hop but the reggae influence has been replaced with synth, the modern "rappers" are actually Hip-hop artists but the average person calls them rappers because it is shorter than "Hip-hop artist". Out of the laziness of people to say 2 words instead of one; Hip-hop and rap have been mixed up. Rap is dead these days and the last rappers were Run-D.M.C. and maybe Tupac. I do not like modern Hip-hop cause the artists try to make catchy, rhyming lyrics but because they don't have poetic minds they have to slur and mispronounce words to make them rhyme. Example: the song "Throw some D's" you hear the word "caddilick" a lot. I listen to the song just to laugh at it, I am even laughing as I write this. Hip-hop was a great upbeat style but it is now all about image, the best of modern Hip-hop is ok to me but I really liked the early Hip-hop.A lot of modern Hip-hop sucks\!
Author: joe725 http://hip-hop.urbanup.com/237722928. (hip-hop) (43↑, 51↓)Hip-hop, as a whole, is the revolutionary way of observing the world around you. Without a doubt, hip-hop is an objective way of persceiving the actions of those both abroad and at home, and transferring the way you feel about them into one of the many creativities. Since the dawn of Afrika Bombata, hip-hop has taken the streets of natinos everywhere by storm, but unfortunately, and to my personal dismay, little microphone bitches like Lil Jon and Gay Unit have taken over mainstream rap, giving a bad name to emcee's and spoken word poets everywhere. A few things recognizable to hip-hop: -most commonly the spoken word that rhymes, has a sick beat, and hits the body and soul with powerful meaning. I.E. Talib Kweli, Mos Def, Jedi Mind Tricks, Canibus, and Immortal Technique -Graffiti, while also considered an art of the hip-hop regime, has become globally renowned world wide. -Breakdancing has unfortunately become a dying form of self-expression. -DJing is probably the most important aspect of underground hip-hop musicianship, because, hey what bitch ever rhymed without a bomb beat? Now this goes to say that any emcee who can go crazy acapella deserves props but not an amount of respecting matching beated musicians. -Beat boxing is undoubtably the most intriguing of all the hip-hop arts. Musicians of the beat-box genre make noises and sing both alone and toghether making beats that sound like drums and other funky noises. This is probably the most mysterious of the hip-hop arts. -Slam poetry is personally one of my favorite aspects of Hip-hop culture. With both rhyme and intelligence, emcees of slam poetry spit lines directed at problems today and those directly connected to the emcee themselves. These are just a few of the aspects on the hip-hop ballot. Make sure never to listen to G-Unit, eminem, dr dre, lil jon, chingy, nelly, jay z's new shit, or any of that bullshit insult to hip hop. check out some talib or some hieroglyphics. (hip-hop) (23↑, 37↓)An alarming recent trend is seen in commercial music journalists, djs/vjs, etc. calling any music with a dj and mc "hip-hop." In doing this they obfuscate the distinction between rap and hip-hop. Rap is visceral; hip-hop is cerebral. Rap has its own integrity, equal to that of hip-hop, as was shown in the old school (78 - 83) and Golden Age (84 - 93) years (all dates are approximations). Rap is currently much more commercially successful and generally popular than hip-hop, and in its current expression has been watered down by the demands of commerce. (see: hip-pop). By contrast, hip-hop is undergoing a bit of a rennaisance, whose crystallisation was marked by the release of such albums Black Star by Mos Def and Talib Kweli in the late nineties.Rap: Run DMC, Public Enemy, Eric B. and Rakim, Doug E. Fresh and Slick Rick, Beastie Boys, N.W.A./Dr. Dre, LL Cool J, Grandmaster Flash, BDP, Big Daddy Kane, Jay-Z, Black Thought (The Roots' mc), EPMD, Queen Latifah, MC Lyte, Kid and Play, Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Cash Money artists, Ludacris, Nelly, Black Eyed Peas (now?). Hip-Hop: A Tribe Called Quest, De La Soul, Digital Underground, MF Doom, Aesop Rock, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Del the Funky Homosapien, The Roots' musicians, Jurassic 5, 3rd Bass, Black Eyed Peas (then?), RJD2. Some artists, such as Missy Elliot and Busta Rhymes, appear on first notice to be rappers, particularly because of their tendancy towards braggadoccio, etc., and thier somewhat accessible sound, but upon deeper examination prove to be hip-hop artists. Similarly, The Neptunes, Timbaland, and Kanye West lay down what one might call hip-hop beats, but most often for rap artists.

Its followers can be seen posturing around British and Irish town centres, usually in gangs as they are shite at one-on-one confrontation, and too cowardly to walk alone. The hip-hop aficionado can be identified by its mangled, locally-accented appropriations of what they have heard on MTV Base. They are also almost entirely white. Some people have had the temerity to suggest hip-hop has had credibility in music. These people, from their angled caps to their MF Doom Nikes, are liars, and, like all of hip-hop, are trying to sell you a lifestyle that you don't relate to, yet vaguely want because your life sucks, or so they'd have you believe. Verse 2 The Plug Two brand with the flavour in the flute watch the sniffin' so a sack of shows in demand I read the diction from the second page I got the one-two gauge baritone to the izm fan Trees fall so I can play ground with my ink So let me need ya to my ems go I push the infinite and carry it My carrier's the three over one so my pluggins already know Lick shots with moo catch the boo from a ghost in the heckling crowd if I give a foot Jack Ville caught a spill when a still came from my mouth I brought a head down south I don't check for the noose and the neck So I never tell my ems that finesse is knocking at my door I choose to run from the rays of the burning sun and dodge a needle washing up upon a sandy shore I bring the element H with the 2 so ya owe me what's coming when I'm raining on your new parade It's just mind over matter and what matters is that the mind isn't guided by the punished shade I keep the walking on the right side but I won't judge the next who handles walking on the wrong Cuz that's how he wants to be No difference, see I wanna be like the name of this song I am Verse 3 I am Posdnous I be the new generation of slaves Here to make papes to buy a record exec rakes the pile of revenue I create but I guess I don't get a cut cuz my rent's a month late The deeds of a natural are seeds that are no longer planted so the famine in the mind is strong Tactics of another plane is now proven sane Sane enough to let you know from within this song I stabilize many cableized viewers So my occupation's known But not why I occupy And that is to bring the peace not in the flower but the As-Salaam Alaikum in the third I am

And now you've gone and inspired a bunch of white kids with their EXCO and FUBU and $700 shoes to go get shot... no one likes a wigger. Often the people that listen to it dress like thugs. The white kids(I mean kids, because no respectable adult would buy into such shit) all of a sudden learn ebonics and talk poorly. They all think that people respect them. They don't, people just think they're fucking criminals.I got shot nine times, and now I'm endorsed by McDonalds\! Also, I like to talk about the bad shape of the "hood" and giving hope to the kids, but really, I'm overcharging them on CDs, and making millions\! PIMP PIMP\!\!\! Hip-hop...

(hip-hop) (66↑, 174↓)A set of attitudes and behaviors originating in the stark, deprived inner-city ghettos and inexplicably adopted by middle-class suburban teens. Hip-hop represents resourcefulness and ingenuity in the face of unspeakable material and intellectual poverty: 1. Graffiti: Can't afford real art supplies? Spray paint someone else's property\! Dat shit be da bomb\! 2. Break dancing: Can't afford a place to dance? Flatten a cardboard box and flop around on the sidewalk\! Dem pedestrians be laughing wit you, not at you homie\! 3. Rapping/Mcing: Can't afford a musical instrument or too lazy to learn how play? Shout some rapid-fire rhymes. Extra points awarded for butchering the english language. Yo yo dem badass rhymes gots da Man afeard of da revolution\! 4. DJing: Can't afford to put together a band or too lazy to write your own music? Find someone else's work on vinyl and move it back and forth on a fancy turntable. Dat skritch-skratch be musical genius\! Your hip-hop credibility will be enhanced by rejecting the strides made in your behalf by the civil rights movement. Don't apply for scholarships; drop out of school. Fail to learn proper English, thereby ensuring that you'll never qualify for a decent job. Try never to read any books. Reject any activity that requires hard work or discipline. Show the world you're a hip-hopper by wearing garish, impractical, cheap-knock-off clothing and jewelry that mimics rap stars and basketball players. Make sure you look like a complete fool when you're out in general society. Finally, don't bother to learn about anything the world has to offer outside your neighborhood. Dat shit all be plastic, an you gots ta keep it real\!Le'Rhonda don't need no education. She don't need no job. She be keepin it real. Hip-hop be her life.
